RSM McGladrey/McGladrey & Pullen Honored as One of BusinessWeek’s “Best Places to Launch a Career 2008”
Company appeals to graduates with its comprehensive compensation package, training program, work environment and WorkLife strategy
MINNEAPOLIS (Sept. 4, 2008) –
BusinessWeek has named RSM McGladrey/McGladrey & Pullen as one of its “Best
Places to Launch a Career in 2008” in the publication’s third annual ranking of
best companies for new college graduates. This is the first time the nation’s fifth
largest tax, accounting and business consulting firm has been named to the
prestigious list.
“Our people make the
difference in how we serve our clients every day,” said Steve Tait, president
of RSM McGladrey. “Providing our recent graduate employees with the
flexibility, benefits and advancement opportunities to make their jobs
challenging and fulfilling makes sense for them professionally and personally,
and for us as a company. Our innovative WorkLife strategy helps to
differentiate us from our peers and demonstrates our commitment to respect of
all individuals.”
The company was named to the
list in part because of its training program and flexible work environment,
which provides entry-level employees flexibility and benefits through options such
as: competitive salaries, compressed workweeks, health insurance plans,
telecommuting, job sharing, flextime, reduced-work schedules, membership
discounts, intensive training, competitive vacation allowance and tuition
reimbursement for higher education.
For the past five years, the
company has made a concerted effort to integrate WorkLife initiatives into its
culture for all employees, not just recent graduates. McGladrey is one of the
first companies to make the measurement of WorkLife goals an important
component of the employee performance review process. The company also has
leveraged its comprehensive Flexible Work Environment programs – offered to
employees at all levels – in its recruitment of college graduates.
“We are committed to
offering new graduates meaningful work in an environment where they can excel.
If we create the right conditions for employees, we will attract the right kind
of talent, and ultimately derive more value for our clients,” said Ken Bansemer,
McGladrey’s national director of recruiting and talent management. “Being named
to the BusinessWeek list further underscores the tremendous progress we have
made in providing college graduates with challenging and meaningful career
opportunities, and a culture for success.”
Best Places to Launch a
Career Methodology
To be named to the “Best
Places to Launch a Career” for Business Week’s list, public or private firms of
any size and in any industry complete a comprehensive application, including
questions about a company’s culture, entry level benefits, base pay salary
rates, employee retainment rates, employee population and higher education
sponsorship policies. With the help of an industrial research firm,
applications are validated and scored on more than 500 points of information,
including the number of previous interns hired after graduation and the length
of time to reach manager status within the company.
